Despite making the postseason 10 times since their last World Series victory, the Los Angeles Dodgers are still chasing their first championship since 1988, and part-owner of the team Magic Johnson believes this is the year - in fact, he guarantees it.

"The Dodgers are going to win the World Series this year," Johnson told Bill Shaikin the Los Angeles Times on Thursday night. "This is our year."

The Dodgers boast the best record in baseball this year in a surprisingly competitive division featuring three postseason teams - along with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies - if the season ended today. At 71-31, the team is just under a .700 winning percentage - a remarkable 113-win pace.

Johnson, who is also the president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, was a five-time NBA championship and three-time Finals MVP during his playing career.

"That's the only ring I don't have, and I need that ring," Johnson added during Clayton Kershaw's annual Ping Pong 4 Purpose tournament regarding a Dodgers championship.

Kershaw, who is currently on the disabled list with a back injury, is having yet another great season with a 2.04 ERA and 2.94 FIP over 21 starts. Johnson implored his staff's ace during the charity event.

"Get healthy," Johnson told Kershaw in front of the audience. "Lead us."
