The Los Angeles Rams were due to report to training camp Friday morning and star defensive tackle Aaron Donald was not among the players present, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Donald has expressed to his team that he would like a new contract and he skipped voluntary organized team activities this offseason amid negotiations.

Since he was selected in the first round of the 2012 draft, Donald has blossomed into one of the league's premier defenders. He has two first-team All-Pro selections and three Pro Bowl appearances to his name after just three seasons.

Such production led Rams general manager Les Snead to admit in March that his interior defender "deserves a raise."

Donald is entering Year 4 of his rookie deal and the Rams picked up the fifth-year option in his contract. He's currently set to earn just $1.8 million in base salary and hit free agency in 2019.
