Report: Twins' Dozier, Kintzler drawing interest

Brad Rempel / USA TODAY Sports

Brian Dozier's name has resurfaced in trade talks after the second baseman was almost dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason.

The Minnesota Twins are receiving interest in both Dozier and All-Star reliever Brandon Kintzler, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. It was also reported Wednesday that Minnesota would consider trading Ervin Santana and the recently acquired Jaime Garcia if the team continues to fall in the standings.

Minnesota entered the season with low expectations but has managed to stay afloat in a relatively weak American League. After a hot start, which could be partially attributed to good luck by factoring in their Pythagorean record of 43-57 compared to their actual record of 49-51, the Twins have fallen back down to earth.

The team's recent acquisition of Garcia appeared to indicate a willingness to buy, but the club could change direction based on its recent play.

Garcia and Kintzler will be free agents at the end of this season. Santana is under contract for 2018 for $13.5 million and carries a $14-million team option for 2019. Dozier will earn $9 million next year and will be a free agent in 2019.
