Braves option faltering Swanson to Triple-A

Mark J. Rebilas / USA TODAY Sports

Dansby Swanson's disappointing 2017 season took another turn for the worse Wednesday as the Atlanta Braves announced they have demoted the shortstop to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Braves will announce a corresponding roster move before their next game: Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies.

After a stellar debut 2016 season where he slashed .302./361/.442 in 38 games, Swanson has fallen off completely in his sophomore and first full season with the Braves. In 94 games this season, the former first overall draft pick is hitting just .209/.285/.306.

Swanson was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks in December 2015 in the five-player blockbuster deal for Shelby Miller.
