Suns' Knight expected to miss season due to torn ACL

Brandon Knight's season could be over before it began.

The Phoenix Suns announced Tuesday that Knight suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will undergo surgery.

The 25-year-old, who sustained the injury last week while playing in a pro-am game in Miami, is expected to miss the entirety of the upcoming campaign.

Once a promising talent who showed flashes of dynamic scoring and playmaking, Knight's career has been derailed by injuries. He joined the Suns at the 2015 trade deadline, and inked a five-year deal that summer to remain in the Valley of the Sun.

Knight has averaged 15 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in a Suns uniform. However, he hasn't suited up in more than 54 games in a single campaign in Phoenix, and is owed $43.8 million over the next three years.

His absence could impact the Suns' reported pursuit of point guard Kyrie Irving, who asked the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him. Suns floor general Eric Bledsoe has been floated in rumors as a potential piece the Cavs could get in return for the four-time All-Star.
