The Oakland Athletics apparently know what they want in return for right-hander Sonny Gray, and the New York Yankees might have what they seek.

Oakland is prioritizing young center fielders in talks for Gray and are showing interest in Yankees prospect Estevan Florial, according to a source of FOX Sports' Jon Morosi.

Florial, 19, is hitting .293/.372/.485 with 11 home runs, 40 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases for Single-A Charleston. He's ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the Yankees' system, according to MLB Pipeline.

Oakland scouts were also reportedly in attendance to watch the Yankees' Double-A affiliate in Trenton last Thursday - where another prized prospect Jorge Mateo plays - which could be viewed as another sign of a potential deal between the two clubs.

The 27-year-old Gray in the midst of a turnaround season after struggling in 2016. He owns a 3.66 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 15 starts and is under team control until 2020.

He's set to earn the remainder of his $3.575-million salary this season and is eligible for arbitration next year.

Other teams mentioned in various trade rumors for Gray have included the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, and Milwaukee Brewers.
