PGA picks: DJ gets back on track with win at Glen Abbey

With the golf world still buzzing from Jordan Spieth's epic win at The Open Championship, the PGA Tour is back in North America for the Canadian Open at Glen Abbey.

While many of the top players in the world are sitting this one out prior to the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational next week, Dustin Johnson did make the trip.

The No. 1 player in the world finished a disappointing 54th last week at Royal Birkdale after a closing 77, but is no stranger to success in Canada. He's the pick this week in the final tournament of July on the PGA Tour.

Favorite to watch (odds less than 20-1)

Dustin Johnson

The world's top-ranked golfer against a fairly weak field on a course where he's finished second the last two times he's played? Everybody should rush to their local betting shop to lay some money down on Johnson this week. The long-hitting American has struggled as of late after setting the golf world on fire the past calendar year, but the friendly confines of Glen Abbey should spark a rebound. Look for the 33-year-old to grab his third win of the year in suburban Toronto.

2nd tier (odds greater than 20-1)

Tony Finau

Finau's been on a bit of a heater lately, making seven straight cuts, and already has six top-15 finishes to his name this season. The lanky 27-year-old can bomb it off the tee and should take advantage of Glen Abbey's enticing par 5s. Putting has long been Finau's Achilles heel, but the greens at the Jack Nicklaus design are fairly playable for all in the field. At 25-1, Finau is worth a wager to grab his first win of the season.

Long shot (odds greater than 50-1)

Gary Woodland

Woodland has made his name on his mammoth drives, but the 33-year-old is fairly tidy around the greens as well. He ranks 54th on Tour in strokes gained around the green to complement his 37th-place ranking in the same category off the tee. The Kansas native has played at Glen Abbey before, making the cut in 2013 before notching his second win on Tour the following week. Woodland should be able to bomb and gouge his way around the course and be in contention this week.

Super long shot (odds greater than 100-1)

Luke List

Another long hitter on this week's betting card, the 32-year-old List is one of the best drivers on Tour, ranking 12th in strokes gained off the tee - a major bonus on the Glen Abbey layout. He's been struggling as of late with two missed cuts in his last three events, but finished 14th in Canada last year. That familiarity should allow List to make a run in the 2017 edition.

Hit this bet, buy a car (odds greater than 150-1)

Hunter Mahan

It's been a terrible year for Mahan, as the 35-year-old has only made nine of 23 cuts on the schedule. His past success around the Glen Abbey layout is reason enough to make a small wager at 200-1. Mahan was famously leading the tournament in 2013, sitting 13-under after two rounds, before withdrawing to rush back to Texas for the birth of his child. The former Ryder Cup player has showed positive signs of late, making four of his last five cuts.
