Meyer: The 'ship has sailed' on discussing 31-0 loss to Clemson

After reaching its second College Football Playoff semifinal in three seasons, Ohio State was run off the field 31-0 by eventual champion Clemson, embarrassing the Buckeyes on the biggest of stages.

Don't expect the program to use that terrible showing as motivation for next season, however, as head coach Urban Meyer insists that game is in the rear view.

"We kind of let that one go," Meyer said during Big Ten Media Days, per Bill Landis of Cleveland.com. "We've been known in the past to use different forms of motivation, a loss here or there. That ship has sailed. It's gone. We have not addressed it. Professionally, it changed how we do some business on offense, but we're moving forward.

That professional change was made at the offensive coordinator position, where former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson was brought in to fix the struggling unit. Prior to taking the Hoosiers job, Wilson was one of the top coordinators in the country during his time with Oklahoma. The hiring of such a big name in that role is a first for Meyer throughout his illustrious career as a head coach.

"Kevin Wilson is the first established offensive coordinator I've ever hired," Meyer said. "It's either been guys promoted from my staff, or a young up-and-comer like Tom Herman. This is a veteran coach who's led some of the best offenses in America, so he's had a ton of input in our offense."

Wilson's first order of business will be to repair the Buckeyes' anemic passing attack, which ranked 81st in the country last season. Star quarterback J.T. Barrett was held under 130 yards passing in each of Ohio State's final three games, finishing with three interceptions and just one touchdown in that stretch.

The first chance the public has to see Wilson's impact will be against a familiar foe, as Ohio State opens the season against his former Indiana program on Aug. 31.
