Lakers' Nance Jr. reconnects with former pen pal after 14 years

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Lakers forward Larry Nance Jr. found a surprise waiting for him when he checked his Twitter this afternoon: A post from an old pen pal that he wrote to when he was just 10 years old.

The user posted a pair of letters sent from the eventual NBA player from when she had been serving in the military overseas. In one of the letters, Nance Jr. gives a snapshot of the state of the Association circa March 2003, as well as foreshadowing his own professional goals.

"I like the Lakers too they are winning their series with the Timberwolves," wrote Nance Jr. "Who is your favorite player? Mine is Shaq (O'Neal). Who do you want to get LeBron James? I want the Cavs to get LeBron, that is because my dad played for the Cavs."

Nance Jr. is now making sure that his former pen pal is hooked up with tickets to a game some time this season.

It goes to show that it never hurts to follow up on an old connection.
