Report: Yankees among teams showing interest in Braves' Garcia

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Jaime Garcia sweepstakes are in full force days after trade negotiations between the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins fell apart.

The New York Yankees are among a half-dozen teams showing interest in the Braves left-hander, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Garcia is also on the Milwaukee Brewers' radar as the club searches for rotation upgrades, per ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Garcia's deal to the Twins appeared to be all but done until talks broke off at the last minute, reportedly due to a medical concern the Braves had over a Twins prospect.

The Yankees' interest in Garcia isn't surprising as the club recently lost Michael Pineda for the season to Tommy John surgery. Even with Masahiro Tanaka struggling this year, the Yankees starting rotation has been surprisingly effective. Entering Sunday, the Yankees' qualified starters have 8.8 WAR - the seventh most in baseball.

In 18 starts this year, Garcia has a 4.30 ERA, 4.14 FIP, and 1.32 WHIP.
