Ole Miss AD: Phone records showed pattern of troubling conduct by Freeze

Details continue to emerge in the wake of Hugh Freeze's resignation as head football coach at Ole Miss, and the university has begun to disclose the results of its investigation into his behavior.

Ole Miss chancellor Jeffrey Vitter and athletic director Ross Bjork addressed a number of points during a press conference Thursday evening, with several of them revolving around a reported "misdial" to an escort service found on Freeze's school-issued cell phone.

"Once we looked at the records we found a pattern that was troubling," Bjork said. "

Bjork stated that upon further investigation of Freeze's phone records, a pattern of conduct was discovered that led to the university officials meeting with Freeze. When asked directly if the troubling conduct was directly referencing Freeze's possible involvement with escort services, Bjork declined to elaborate.

Vitter echoed Bjork's statements, saying that what was discovered during their investigation could simply not be accepted by the university, according to Nick Cole of SEC Country.

"We simply cannot accept the conduct in his personal life that we have discovered," Vitter said.

"Every decision made at this university is made based on what is best for our students and the university."

Bjork went on to confirm that Freeze's resignation is in fact not related to the ongoing NCAA investigation, but rather a result of the university's own investigation into his personal conduct.

"We're asking everyone in the Ole Miss family to support our players, coaches and our university like never before," Bjork said.

Bjork also confirmed that there will be no buyout clause or settlement with Freeze, and that a search for a new permanent head coach has yet to begin.
