Report: Rays among teams showing interest in Marlins' Ramos

As the trade deadline approaches, the Tampa Bay Rays are inching closer to the Boston Red Sox for top spot in the American League East, and with their continued pursuit they may need to call in some reinforcements.

The Rays have been involved in plenty of trade rumors surrounding the relief pitching market, and while they made one small trade, acquiring right-hander Chaz Roe from the Atlanta Braves, they may have more moves in store.

Tampa is among the teams showing interest in AJ Ramos of the Miami Marlins, according to Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.

The Rays have already been linked to a number of relievers, including Justin Wilson of the Detroit Tigers, Pat Neshek of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Hunter Strickland of the San Francisco Giants, so their interest in Ramos isn't surprising.

Tampa's bullpen sits 11th in the AL in team ERA (4.37), ninth in opponent's average (.246), and 13th in strikeouts (268).

Ramos, 30, has posted the highest ERA of his career (4.08) during 36 appearances this season, but has still saved 17 games and recorded a 11.5 SO/9 rate, although his 4.8 BB/9 is concerning.

The right-hander has saved 89 games during his six-year career, all with the Marlins, and was an All-Star last season.

He's due the remainder of his $6.55-million salary this season and is under team control until the end of 2018.
