Mark O'Meara was given the privilege of hitting the opening tee shot on Thursday at the 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

O'Meara, who won at Birkdale in 1998, stuck his peg in the ground, doffed his cap to the crowd, and then laced a drive out of bounds.

"My day was toast after that first tee shot,” the 60-year-old told Ryan Lavner of the Golf Channel. “But I still had to play.”

The two-time major champion would make a quadruple-bogey 8 on the hole, and posted an opening-round 81.
