The Phoenix Suns extended general manager Ryan McDonough on a multi-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

Phoenix also hired former Cleveland Cavaliers sharpshooter James Jones to be their vice president of basketball operations, bringing an end to his 14-year career.

Jones will report to McDonough on all matters relating to basketball, including the draft, free agency, and trades.

McDonough will be entering his fifth season as GM of the Suns. The team has been wildly unsuccessful during that stretch - missing the playoffs in each season - but McDonough has managed to cobble together a collection of intriguing young prospects headlined by Devin Booker.

Jones, meanwhile, will be a rookie executive but boasts a wealth of experience working with the NBA Players Association. Jones served as the secretary-treasurer for the NBPA and helped negotiate the last collective bargaining agreement.
