Kwame Brown: 76ers misdiagnosed career-ending injury

The Philadelphia 76ers' medical team doesn't exactly have the best reputation, as evidenced by the never-ending rash of injuries that continue to plague the franchise.

The cases of Joel Embiid, Nerlens Noel, and Ben Simmons are recent examples, but this even extends back to 2013 in the example of Kwame Brown, who saw his NBA career end at 30.

Brown says the Sixers misdiagnosed his injury, which partially explains why he never got another contract.

"I had what's called an avulsion fracture where the hamstring tears a piece of the bone away," Brown explained to Bonsu Thompson of Bleacher Report.

"They were working me out every day, but they misdiagnosed me. They told me I had a mild hamstring injury. I was icing when I should've had surgery to pin it back."

Brown was limited to 22 games in what ended up being his last NBA season. He tried for a comeback after he regained his health, but the 35-year-old now plays in the BIG3 league. He's still interested in rejoining the NBA but he's come to peace with it.

"I'm open. Whatever happens, happens."

Brown - the former No. 1 pick in 2001 - averaged 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds for his career.
