Baylor's Blanchard charged with domestic violence

Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports

Police charged Baylor defensive back Travon Blanchard with domestic assault Tuesday evening, law enforcement officials confirmed to Rissa Shaw and John Carroll of KWTX.

The charge stems from an incident involving Blanchard's ex-girlfriend that took place several months ago. Blanchard was ordered in February to cease communications with the woman, with whom he had allegedly been violent on at least four different ocassions between July 4, 2016 and Feb. 4, 2017.

"The accusations made against Travon are the same accusations made by the same woman who requested the protective order filed earlier this year," Blanchard's defense attorney said in a written statement. "Her initial accusations connected to this arrest were contained in the February 2017 police or event report released earlier this year. The woman alleged that Travon snatched keys out of her hand which she claimed cut her pinky finger in the process. We look forward to representing Travon and bringing out the truth in court."

Baylor suspended Blanchard indefinitely in February, and the fifth-year senior hasn't had any involvement with the football program since.

Blanchard has been a starter in the Bears' secondary for the past two seasons, recording 156 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and three interceptions over that span.
