Report: Chris Carter likely to sign with either A's or Rangers

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Last season's National League home-run leader appears to have two teams interested in his services.

The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics are reportedly both in on first baseman Chris Carter and it's likely the veteran signs with one of them, a source close to the situation told Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The Milwaukee Brewers initially considered a reunion with Carter, though it appears the team has moved on.

Of the two teams interested, the Athletics are certainly intriguing. Carter began his career in Oakland playing three years in Bump City. It comes at a time when A's first baseman Yonder Alonso has been generating significant interest on the trade market. Carter seems to be his potential replacement.

Carter was released by the New York Yankees after hitting a measly .201/.284/.370 in 62 games with the club. He joined the Bronx Bombers on a one-year, $3.5-million deal in the offseason after hitting 41 home runs in 2016.
