Bruce Arena makes 6 changes to USMNT's Gold Cup roster
Bruce Arena is continuing to put his faith in Major League Soccer.
Arena made six changes to the United States Men's National Team's squad at the Gold Cup on Sunday, summoning Tim Howard, Jesse Gonzalez, Michael Bradley, Darlington Nagbe, Jozy Altidore, and Clint Dempsey. Per tournament regulations, national teams are allowed to make a maximum of six changes in the 24 hours that follow the completion of the group stage.
"We have added some experienced players to the roster that can help us in the knockout round of the Gold Cup," Arena said. "The players leaving all made a good impression, and I'm optimistic of their future with the national team program."
Among those replaced in the USMNT's roster are Brad Guzan, Sean Johnson, Alejandro Bedoya, Cristian Roldan, Kelyn Rowe, and Dom Dwyer.
The USMNT beat Nicaragua 3-0 at FirstEnergy Stadium on Saturday night and topped Group B. The Stars and Stripes will play a third-place team from Group A or Group C in the quarter-finals.
