Report: McGee unhappy with lack of money, opportunity from Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have returned almost every member of their championship squad this offseason, while also reloading with more talent.

Yet there's one notable member of the title team still absent. Two weeks into free agency, there remains no resolution on the part of reserve center JaVale McGee.

Unhappiness is brewing on that front. The Warriors gave the entire taxpayer mid-level exception to Nick Young, and maintained the status quo by re-signing Zaza Pachulia as their starting center. Neither point sits well with McGee, sources told Marcus Thompson of the Mercury News.

McGee beat long odds to make the Warriors last season on a non-guaranteed training camp deal, then pieced together a commendable comeback campaign. He was the Warriors' third-string center behind Pachulia and David West, but Golden State's stars clearly enjoyed playing with McGee, as evidenced by their eagerness to offer him lob passes as often as possible.

Golden State was 10.1 points per 100 possessions improved with McGee on the court, with most of that effect owed to the vertical threat of McGee's rolls to the rim. With the Warriors' abundance of shooting and playmaking on the perimeter, opponents were left defenseless against alley-oops to McGee.

The 29-year-old center played well enough to warrant a raise, but the bottom line is that the Warriors are already overloaded with massive contracts. They only have the veteran's minimum for McGee, and he will have to go elsewhere to find his payday.

The Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings have also shown interest in McGee this summer. He averaged 6.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 9.6 minutes per game last season.
