Rays acquire Sergio Romo from Dodgers

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays have landed the reliever they were looking for, as the club announced it has acquired Sergio Romo from the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations.

Romo was designated for assignment by Los Angeles on Thursday. The 10-year veteran has struggled this season since switching over from the San Francisco Giants, amassing a career-worst 6.12 ERA in 25 innings.

The Rays looked to be one of the teams most interested in adding a reliever before the trade deadline, as the club had also been linked with David Phelps of the Miami Marlins and Giants reliever Hunter Strickland in recent weeks.
