Report: Twins finalizing trade with Braves for Jaime Garcia

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Twins are close to acquiring left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia from the Atlanta Braves, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Both Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com and Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports also report the deal is imminent and the two teams are finalizing the move.

The two teams are reportedly working out details, as Garcia's medical history is a relatively long one and includes a Tommy John surgery in 2008, according to a report from Mike Bernadino of the Pioneer Press.

Adding intrigue to the matter, the Braves scratched Aaron Blair from his start in Triple-A and he looks to be in line to make Garcia's scheduled start Friday.

The 31-year-old Garcia is posting a 4.33 ERA and 4.24 FIP over his 106 innings with the Braves.

Minnesota has the fourth-worst starting pitching in all of baseball by WAR, according to FanGraphs. Despite being led by Jose Berrios and Ervin Santana, the Twins have had trouble with the depth of their rotation - even resorting to another former Brave in Bartolo Colon recently.

The Braves acquired Garcia from the St. Louis Cardinals this past offseason for Luke Dykstra, John Gant, and Chris Ellis.

Garcia is eligible for free agency at the end of the year and presents a rental option for the second-place Twins, who trail the Cleveland Indians for the division lead by just half a game.
