Trump makes appearance at U.S. Women's Open

What would a tournament at Trump National Golf Club be without the man himself?

President Donald Trump made an appearance at the U.S. Women's Open on Friday after flying in from France just after 3:30 p.m. ET. He waved at the crowd from his motorcade and later came to the clubhouse to view play from a box.

While there was sure to be some controversy over the president's appearance, at least some of the players were excited to see him in attendance.

"I never played in front of the president in Korea and I never met the president of Korea, but I'm very grateful that I might have a chance to meet the president of the United States," Jeongeun Lee said, according to Luke Kerr-Dineen of USA Today.

Angela Stanford was particularly excited about Trump's security team.

"I've always secretly wanted to be a Secret Service agent," said Stanford. "It's pretty cool, to have Secret Service at your major golf tournament."

Marina Alex believed having Trump at the tournament was good for the sport, regardless of people's take on the president.

"Regardless of your political affiliation and whether you are a fan of Trump or you're not, having a president at a women's golf event is pretty remarkable. It's going to draw attention to women's golf that has maybe never been in our favor before," she said.

"We have an unbelievable group of talented women playing golf right now. If it's allowing more people to see us play our game, I don't see anything wrong with that."
