Duty calls.

For the general manager of the Chicago White Sox Rick Hahn that meant leaving his 11-year-old child unattended at All-Star Game FanFest to take a phone call that would prove pivotal in sending Jose Quintana to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

"It actually was at the All-Star Game FanFest," Hahn told MLB Network Radio. "I take my family every year as a tradition, which, when I started doing this as an assistant GM, it seemed like a good idea. Get away for a few days enjoy the environment.

"The last few years it's probably not the smartest idea because I do spend a fair amount of time obviously working and sometimes you have to leave your 11-year-old unattended in the Miami Convention Center to take a call behind an exhibit which is what happened on Tuesday morning as Theo (Epstein) called."

Of course, it all seems to have worked out in the end, with Hahn able to joke about the matter on the radio - especially now that the trade is official and the White Sox farm system is even more outstanding.

Picturing Hahn abandoning his child while hiding behind an exhibit is far from the romantic image of Billy Beane and some fictional version of Paul DePodesta trading for Ricardo Rincon.
