Whittaker, 3 others facing 6-month medical suspensions after UFC 213

Yoel Romero's oblique kicks appear to have done a number on Robert Whittaker.

The 26-year-old Whittaker could be saddled with a six-month medical suspension due to a left knee injury sustained in his interim middleweight title bout with Romero in the main event of UFC 213 in Las Vegas last week, MMA Fighting reports, citing the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Romero's strikes to Whittaker's knee visibly limited the Aussie's movement early on in their contest, one Whittaker took by unanimous decision after rallying to take three of five rounds on the scorecards. "The Reaper" will have to undergo an MRI and be cleared by a physician in order to return to action as early as Aug. 8.

Also facing six-month medical suspensions are lightweight Anthony Pettis and heavyweights Curtis Blaydes and Travis Browne. Pettis and Blaydes picked up unanimous decision wins over Jim Miller and Daniel Omielanczuk, respectively, while Browne was submitted by Aleksei Oleinik on the card's prelims. Like Whittaker, all three fighters can get back in the saddle sooner with a doctor's blessing.
