Cuban forced Mavs rookie to delete stupid tweets upon being drafted

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is running a tight ship.

When the team selected Dennis Smith Jr. ninth overall in last month's NBA draft, some of his old tweets went viral, especially this one:

The 19-year-old point guard has since deleted that, plus many other regrettable posts, including one in which he referred to former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo as "trash."

Why? Because his new boss told him to.

"One of the first things after we drafted Dennis, and I'm talking to him on the phone, I'm like, 'Dude, I went through your Twitter account. It's time to get on there and DELETE'," Cuban told ESPN during Sunday's Summer League win over the Phoenix Suns, as quoted by USA Today Sports' Andrew Joseph.

"And so, he went through it. And to his credit, they were gone. He had a lot of stupid stuff on there."

The business mogul had also threatened his staff not to leak the club's intention to draft Smith to the media, saying he'd fire anyone who did.
