Jon Jones sides with Mayweather's 'greatness' to beat McGregor

Jon Jones has a great deal of respect for Conor McGregor and what he's done for MMA, but he can't ignore the facts.

Appearing on Fox Sports 1's "Undisputed" on Monday, "Bones" professed that he's been inspired with what McGregor has proven to be possible in the MMA world, however he's not picking "The Notorious" in his next bout.

"I'm really happy for McGregor to be in this position, but if I were a betting man, I would imagine that you just have to side on the side of greatness. ...

"(McGregor has) been a huge inspiration to me, but I'm also a fan of greatness and Floyd Mayweather is unquestionably great," said Jones. "To go 49-0 is such a special thing."

After hosts interrupted Jones to question Mayweather's remaining skills, Jones had a defense for the boxing champ ready.

"He's 40 but I think Floyd takes care of himself," said Jones. "He's an advocate about living a clean life and you would be surprised what you can get out of yourself when you live the way Floyd does. He has all the resources to stay healthy and on top of his game."

Jones' upcoming opponent at UFC 214 on Saturday, Daniel Cormier, agreed that he's also picking Mayweather over McGregor on ESPN Monday.
