Report: Lukaku to have medical ahead of £75M move to Manchester United

Manchester United reportedly believes that Romelu Lukaku is worth it.

According to the Guardian's Jamie Jackson and Dominic Fifield, Lukaku is set for a medical in Los Angeles ahead of sealing a £75-million move from Everton to United. The Belgian striker, 24, is apparently expected to join the Red Devils when they arrive in the city on Sunday for their pre-season tour of North America. The product of RSC Anderlecht was allegedly supposed to fly back to England on Friday, but Jose Mourinho decided that, in order to complete the transfer as soon as possible, having the medical in L.A. was best.

Per BBC Sport's Simon Stone, United, who started chasing Lukaku at the start of the summer, will not be pursuing its interest in Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata. The Red Devils were reportedly set to make an improved offer of £66 million (approximately €75 million) for the Spanish forward in an attempt to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Los Blancos refused to lower their asking price of €90 million (approximately £79.2 million).

Chelsea apparently believed the Blues were in pole in position to sign Lukaku, and, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, the club is looking at Morata, as well as Torino's Andrea Belotti.

If Chelsea misses out on Lukaku, the loss would allegedly deal another blow to Antonio Conte's relationship with the board, as the Italian manager is frustrated with the club's lack of action in the summer transfer window. Mino Raiola, the fearless negotiator who is the footballer's agent, reportedly played a key part in United's hijacking of the Blues' bid, tipping off the Red Devils at the start of the week that an agreement may be possible.

Lukaku is in L.A., where he is apparently holidaying with Paul Pogba.

If Lukaku joins United, he will be the Red Devils' second signing of the summer transfer window following Victor Lindelof, who joined the club from Benfica for €35 million (approximately £31 million).
