Stoke City manager Mark Hughes is believed to be in the process of contemplating a bid for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

The Stoke manager is eager to make Delph his third signing of the summer and is prepared to match City's asking price of £12 million, according to John Percy of The Telegraph.

West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United are also understood to have inquired about Delph, but Stoke appears to be the front-runner to land the 27-year-old after submitting an improved offer.

Delph is thought to be among a number of City players manager Pep Guardiola is eager to offload this summer, but the club is reportedly reluctant to consent to a loan deal.

"We have asked for an idea in terms of the possibility of doing something with Fabian Delph," Hughes said.

"He is one of a number of players we are looking at, but we speak to a lot of clubs and ask about their plans for certain players.

"Fabian is one that we have asked about, because he is a good footballer, but with certain deals you are in the hands of other clubs.

"We are very active in the market at the moment, and we are hopeful that things will begin to move quickly for us."

Since his controversial transfer from Aston Villa in 2015, Delph has gone from a player once included in the England national team to one who rarely gets a sniff at first-team action at the domestic level. Delph has amassed just over 40 appearances in a City shirt over two seasons.
