Former coaches sue Georgia Southern for breach of contract

Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE / Reuters

Former Georgia Southern offensive coordinators David Dean and Rance Gillespie are suing the school for breach of contract, according to Dan Wolken of USA TODAY Sports.

Wolken obtained the two separate lawsuits that allege the school never honored their 18-month contracts, before pressuring them to sign new deals shortly before they were fired.

According to the lawsuit, the Georgia Southern University Athletic Foundation never signed the initial contracts that were supposed to run from January 2016 to June 2017. Dean and Gillespie were then informed last November by head coach Tyson Summers that new deals were being drawn up, but they would end in February 2017.

The pair claims the athletic department "conspired to change the terms of the January contract and specifically the employment end date" to save money.

The Eagles finished 5-7 last season and both offensive coordinators were let go.
