Report: Phillies, Blue Jays showing sincere interest in Dee Gordon
The Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays may only have a combined 72 wins between them, but that apparently doesn't mean they won't buy at the July 31 trade deadline.
Philadelphia and Toronto are both showing sincere interest in Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Although this is the first time the Phillies have been linked to the 29-year-old infielder, they have shown reported interest in two other players on the Marlins' roster: Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich.
The Phillies already have Cesar Hernandez manning second base, but it appears like they may view Gordon as an upgrade.
The Blue Jays, however, were one of three teams linked to the 2015 National League batting champ last week and could use a replacement for the injured Devon Travis, who is on the 60-day disabled list after having cartilage damage cleaned out of his right knee.
They've been using a mix of Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins at second, but the pair haven't offered the club much production.

Gordon has appeared in 88 games for the Marlins this season, hitting .290/.337/.352 with 14 doubles, four triples, and 32 stolen bases.
He's under team control until the end of 2020 and will earn a guaranteed $37.9 million after 2018.
