Baylor's Rhule: Current roster is 'fastest group of kids I've been around'

Matt Rhule has been involved in college football since his first year as a linebacker at Penn State in 1994, so for a group of players to earn the title of "fastest" he's ever been around is quite the compliment.

The first-year Baylor head coach joined SiriusXM College Sports Nation on Wednesday to talk about the upcoming season for the Bears, and he had some very high praise for his team's speed, according to Shehan Jeyarajah of Big 12 Diehards.

"At Temple, we had great fullbacks, tailbacks, an NFL quarterback and we were pro-style," Rhule said. "At Baylor we walked into a different situation. We did our timing last week and we had non-scholarship players that ran in the 4.3s. It's the fastest group of kids I've been around."

Heading that group of speed threats is last year's leading rusher Terence Williams, along with JaMycal Hasty, who will be looking to build off of a productive freshman season in which he rushed for 623 yards and three touchdowns.

Rhule also has a young group of receivers in Chris Platt, Blake Lynch, and Pooh Stricklin who will be looking to fill the voids left by last year's primary targets KD Cannon and Ishmael Zamora.

“I never looked at it as my offense,” Rhule said. “I’m hopefully a smart enough guy to utilize the players we have, utilize the talent we have.

“I’m not stubborn enough to say I’m going to play with four tight ends on the field when I have all that speed.”
