Report: Oxlade-Chamberlain rejects Arsenal's offer of new contract

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly avoiding commitment.

According to the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce, Arsenal may be forced to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain after the English winger rejected the Gunners' offer of a new contract and told the club he doesn't intend on putting pen to paper on an extension. The Southampton product is apparently prepared to sit out the final year of his deal before leaving the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is allegedly keen on moving to Liverpool, believing that he must quit on Arsenal in order to further his career. The Gunners reportedly rejected the Reds' initial approach for the footballer, but that was when there was hope he would ink a new contract and, with that hope out the window, the club from north London might have to listen to offers.

It was reported in June that Oxlade-Chamberlain would seek assurances over his first-team role at Arsenal before deciding whether to stay with the Gunners, who expected him to sign a new contract worth in the region of £100,000 per week.

Manchester City and Chelsea, both of which are linked to Oxlade-Chamberlain, are apparently yet to make an approach.
