Report: LeBron not actively recruiting free agents for Cavs
He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.
LeBron James is taking a hands-off approach toward free agency, as the league's best player is not actively helping the Cleveland Cavaliers in their pursuit of free agents, sources told ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
Cleveland's front office has been in flux since the departure of president David Griffin. No replacement has been found, leaving team owner Dan Gilbert and assistant general manager Koby Altman in charge of personnel moves.
James has previously lent his star power to recruiting free agents - most notably in the case of Kevin Love - and Cleveland could definitely use his help. But he also faced sharp media criticism for stepping on the toes of management.
One explanation for James' detachment is his impending free agency. James is set to become a free agent next summer, and his future in Cleveland is not guaranteed. But even if he were to leave, James isn't in any position to sacrifice a year of his life without the ultimate goal of securing his fourth title.
The more likely reason is that the Cavaliers have almost no trade assets outside of their star players, and no cap room to work with. That makes any free agent pursuit difficult simply from a logisticalstandpoint.
The King is instead using the weekend to attend Eric Bledsoe's wedding in Alabama along with John Wall and player agent Rich Paul.
