Nene may not stay with the Houston Rockets after all.
After learning he was ineligible to sign a four-year, $15-million contract with Houston due to the "over-38 rule," which prevents older players from signing long-term deals, the 6-foot-11 center is back on the open market, a source told ESPN's Marc J. Spears.
Nene has no interest in agreeing to the restructured three-year, $10.9 million deal the Rockets presented him, and is "back to square one in free agency," a source told Spears. However, the Rockets are reportedly "optimistic" that they can work out a new contract with the 34-year-old.
Nene averaged 9.1 points, 4.2 rebounds, one assist, and 0.8 steals on 61.7 percent shooting this past season.
