Report: Knicks reach out to Derrick Rose
The summer market for point guards is quickly drying up for the New York Knicks.
The team has reached out to unrestricted free agent and former league MVP Derrick Rose, league sources told ESPN's Ian Begley.
Rose, whom the team reportedly had interest in re-signing all along, made $21.3 million this past season in The Big Apple, with the Knicks having only approximately $15 million in cap room to entice him should they renounce his rights, as his cap hold is roughly $30 million.
With Jrue Holiday staying with the New Orleans Pelicans, Jeff Teague heading to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Patty Mills remaining with the San Antonio Spurs, New York is running out of viable options. They did draft a point guard eighth overall in Frenchman Frank Ntilikina, but it's safe to assume the team would like to ease him into a large role considering he's only 18 years old.
Rose averaged his most points in five years this past season for the lowly Knicks at 18 per game, adding 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds. He sat out the final eight games, though, after tearing the meniscus in his left knee, forcing him to go under the knife once again.
