YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) Eastern Michigan football coach Chris Creighton has agreed to a contract extension through 2022.

Creighton led the Eagles to their first bowl appearance since 1987 this past season. He took over before the 2014 season.

The school announced the extension Friday. In a statement, Creighton said he appreciates the vote of confidence from EMU President James M. Smith.

EMU lost athletic director Heather Lyke to Pittsburgh this offseason. The school announced this week that Scott Wetherbee would be replacing her.

The Eagles went 7-6 last year after going 3-21 through Creighton's first two seasons.
