Report: Sam Presti being discussed as candidate for Knicks' presidency
The New York Knicks won't prioritize filling their now-vacant president role over making a splash in free agency, but that doesn't mean they're not keeping their eyes on a few potential candidates in the meantime.
Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti's name has been discussed internally within the Knicks organization, league sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
Since Presti is still under contract, though, New York would likely need to offer the Thunder some sort of compensation if they want him.
Presti has been with the franchise since 2007 when the Thunder resided in Seattle under the SuperSonics moniker. He's responsible for drafting future stars in Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook, and building a perennial playoff team in the Western Conference that's qualified for the postseason in seven of the last eight years.
Phil Jackson and the Knicks amicably went their separate ways on Wednesday, with Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri and former Knicks president Isiah Thomas having since been linked to the job.
