Mets' Cabrera retracts trade demand: 'I always want to be here'

So what about that trade request?

New York Mets infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, who blatantly told reporters less than a week ago he was unhappy and that it was "time to make a move," appears to have had a change of heart following Wednesday's 8-0 win against Miami.

"I always want to be here," Cabrera said afterwards, according to Dan Martin of the New York Post.

"This is a great team. In that moment when I said that, I wasn't saying I want to get traded. I was just saying it didn't seem like they had a plan for me. If they've got a plan, they should tell me."

The 31-year-old disapproved of the team's decision to move him from shortstop - in which he's started over 1,000 games - to second base; a position he hadn't played since 2014.

It would appear, though, that a recent hot streak in which Cabrera's had 10 hits (two of them doubles) and four walks since openly demanding a trade has swayed his opinion. The performance has also helped the Mets win four of their last five.

"I like this team a lot," Cabrera said. "I'll be fine with playing second. I'm a professional player. I would like to stay here at any position. I just felt like I didn't have good communication with the team in that moment. Now we have to wait and see what happens."
