Steve Spurrier could be in for a celebration thrown by a program other than the one he's currently employed by this fall.

South Carolina has reportedly engaged in "preliminary discussions" about honoring Spurrier at a home game at Williams-Brice Stadium in 2017, according to Josh Kendall of The State, citing a school spokesman. Spurrier remains the all-time winningest head coach in Gamecocks history.

“There is nothing set, but if something happens that they want to do that, it would be fine with me, probably,” Spurrier said.

One date on South Carolina's schedule that would serve quite well for such a ceremony is Nov. 11. That is when Florida is scheduled to arrive in Columbia to take part in an SEC East battle with the Gamecocks.

Spurrier also happens to be the all-time winningest coach in Gators history as well, notching 122 wins from 1990-2001 before joining the Gamecocks four seasons later.

Despite the drama said matchup would bring, the university is remaining non-committal surrounding a date.

“I’m not aware that any specific dates have been discussed,” assistant athletic director for media relations Steve Fink informed The State via email.

In 11 seasons with the Gamecocks from 2005-15, Spurrier totaled an 86-49 overall record with a 5-4 mark in bowl games and one SEC East Division championship in 2010.
