Report: Sunderland's Borini to undergo Milan medical ahead of £5.3M transfer

AC Milan's summer shopping list apparently includes Sunderland forward Fabio Borini.

The 26-year-old is scheduled for a medical at the team's facilities Thursday ahead of a transfer that's expected to cost Milan £5.3 million, Louise Taylor of the Guardian reports.

Borini will join Milan on a season-long loan for an initial fee of £1 million before the Italian side pays the remainder of the transfer costs next summer to make the move permanent.

Lazio was initially considered the favourite to sign Borini until the capital-city side refused to meet his weekly £35,000 wage demand.

Despite claiming he was played out of position last season under former Sunderland manager David Moyes, he has only scored 16 league goals in the last five seasons, and has failed to impress during previous spells with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Roma.

His arrival would mark the fifth new addition in Milan following the signing of Andre Silva from FC Porto, Ricardo Rodriguez from VfL Wolfsburg, Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal, and Franck Kessie, who joined Milan on a season-long loan deal from Atalanta.

Borini did little to help prevent relegation last term after scoring just two goals in 24 league appearances, as Sunderland went on to finish at the bottom of the Premier League table.
