Pacquiao's camp discussing potential fight in Philippines

Manny Pacquiao hasn't fought in his home country since 2006, but that could change in a matter of months.

Discussions are ongoing between Pacquiao's camp and organizers in the Philippines to schedule a fight in Manila following Pacquiao's upcoming welterweight title defense against Jeff Horn, the fighter and his camp told Dan Rafael of ESPN.

"We're discussing fighting in my country," Pacquiao said. "We're working on that."

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum also confirmed the discussions, adding that specifics of the fight have already been proposed.

"I've been talking to people in the Philippines and they want Manny to fight in the Manila," Arum said. "We would do it in the same way we are doing this fight with Horn, where we would put it on Sunday morning in the Philippines so we could have it on in prime time in the United States on a Saturday night and we would also probably do it with ESPN."

Arum also suggested that Pacquiao could potentially do battle with Konstantin Ponomarev, another Top Rank fighter who's currently 32-0 with 13 knockouts.

"One guy we could match Manny with is Ponomarev. He's a very tough kid. He's undefeated and he's a good fighter, but there could be others," Arum said.

The last time Pacquiao fought on home soil, he was able to earn a victory over Oscar Larios. The 38-year-old has added 20 more fights to his resume since then, with another set for this weekend in Australia.
