Spurrier picks Florida to win SEC East

Steve Spurrier is going with his heart.

The 72-year-old was asked who he thought would win the SEC East this coming season during a Tuesday appearance on the "Paul Finebaum Show," and - here's a shocker - he went with Florida.

While it should come as no surprise that the retired coach tabbed the Gators, he did acknowledge Georgia as a "trendy pick." The Bulldogs figure to be contenders with quarterback Jacob Eason and head coach Kirby Smart entering their second season with the program.

Tennessee also shouldn't be discounted after defeating Florida last year for the first time since 2004. That said, there's a good chance that whichever school wins will be rewarded with a date with Alabama in the SEC title game - a prize no one would look forward to.

Spurrier is a legend in Gainesville after compiling a 122-27-1 record as head coach and capturing a national title, so he certainly has reason to be loyal to the Gators.
