Cardinals' Fowler placed on 10-day DL with right heel spur

The St. Louis Cardinals will be without their two-hitter, as Dexter Fowler was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right heel spur, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reported Sunday.

The 31-year-old Fowler had missed two of the last three Cardinals games, and went 0-for-4 in Saturday's contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Taking Fowler's spot in center field for Sunday's series finale against the Pirates is Tommy Pham, who will also slot into Fowler's two-spot in the lineup.

Fowler has been one of the most productive Cardinals hitters during the team's disappointing start to the 2017 season, posting an .817 OPS.

Since getting dropped out of the leadoff spot in the second week of June, he's slashed an even more impressive .314/.397/.667 over 58 plate appearances.
