10-member staff has made Ohio State a recruiting powerhouse

Joe Maiorana / USA TODAY Sports

Recruiting is the lifeblood of a college football program, and the importance placed on attracting top players has grown substantially in recent years.

A perfect example of that is Urban Meyer's overhaul of the Ohio State system since taking the job in 2012.

In a recent look at the Buckeyes, Ari Wasserman of Cleveland.com noted that Meyer has increased his recruiting staff from just two people in 2012 to a robust 10-member unit.

Here's how the staff looks in their current roles:

Name Job Title
Mark Pantoni Player Personnel Director
Eron Hodges Assistant Player Personnel Director
Tim Hinton Executive Director, Football Relations/Special Assistant to Head Coach
Zach Swartz Director, Football Social Media
Sammy Silverman Program Coordinator/Assistant Creative Media
Kenton Stufflebeam Program Coordinator/Creative Media
Tori Magers Coordinator - On Campus Recruiting
Ed Terwilliger Program Coordinator
Anthony Caughlin Program Coordinator
Andre Robinson Assistant Director of New & Creative Media

Outside of Nick Saban, Meyer has no peer when it comes to recruiting in the college game, as the three-time national champion has dominated the ranks since his time at Florida.

Along with the current No. 1 class in the country for 2018, Meyer has turned in four top-five hauls during his time at Ohio State, and has never finished outside the top seven of ESPN's rankings. In the six years prior to his arrival at the Big Ten school, Ohio State failed to register a top-five class, and finished outside the top 10 in the rankings twice.

Pantoni is the key man behind the recruiting success, having followed Meyer from Florida to join the Buckeyes' staff. In recent years, he's pulled in commitments from a number of future first-round NFL picks such as Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliott, Eli Apple, Marshon Lattimore and Malik Hooker.

The 10-member staff doesn't include any of the coaches who make recruiting trips off campus to prospective players, but shows it's not just the frontman of the program who brings in the talent.

With the way Ohio State is currently reeling in five-star prospects, don't expect it to drop off the national scene anytime soon.
