Report: Crystal Palace offers manager's job to Frank de Boer

Crystal Palace has offered its managerial vacancy to the decorated Dutch gaffer Frank de Boer, the Guardian's Dominic Fifield reports.

The Eagles have been carefully picking through applications and conducting interviews since Sam Allardyce stepped down after securing Premier League safety in the 2016-17 term, and have now apparently selected de Boer as their chief candidate ahead of ex-Alaves handler Mauricio Pellegrino.

The curriculum vitaes of Burnley's Sean Dyche and former Saint-Etienne overseer Christophe Galtier were also assessed.

De Boer, 47, last worked an unsuccessful spell of just 85 days at Inter Milan which ended in November, but before that carved out five-and-a-half years at the helm of Ajax, where he won four Eredivisie titles. He brings plenty of experience from his playing days too, enjoying trophy-laden stints with Ajax and Barcelona.

In eight seasons in the top flight since it was rebranded as the Premier League in 1992, Crystal Palace achieved its highest standing of 10th in 2014-15. The Eagles have spent much of the last two seasons nervously looking over their shoulders at the bottom three.

Even without a manager at the helm, the club's back-to-back Player of the Year winner Wilfried Zaha and Jonny "Joniesta" Williams have committed to new contracts with the club until 2022 and 2019, respectively.
