With a spot on the U.S. national team in mind, Alabama defensive back Tony Brown will run the 100-meter dash at the United States Track & Field Outdoor Championships this weekend, according to Chase Goodbread of NFL.com.

Brown, who notched 32 tackles and two interceptions last year after missing four games due to a suspension, needs to finish in the top three and meet a qualifying standard to receive an invite from the national squad.

The IAAF World Championships are scheduled to take place Aug. 4-13 in London. Alabama begins fall camp Aug. 2, so Brown would need Nick Saban's blessing to miss the start of camp.

Brown isn't the first college football player to take his talents to the track, as last year Oregon receiver Devon Allen ran the 110-meter hurdles event at Rio 2016, finishing fifth. Former Florida running back Jeff Demps also had success on the track, and competed on the U.S. relay team at London 2012 following his senior season with the Gators.
