The Atlanta Falcons are confident they'll be able to ink running back Devonta Freeman to a new contract extension by the first week of training camp in late July, a source told ESPN's Dianna Russini.

The Falcons have yet to announce the dates for their camp.

Freeman hinted last week that he believed a deal was imminent.

The 25-year-old is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yards seasons and said he's seeking "elite" money for his position.

LeSean McCoy is currently the highest-paid running back in the league in terms of annual salary, taking home just over $8 million a season (Le'Veon Bell is set to earn just over $12 million in 2017 on the franchise tag).
