Beckham: Giants WRs will give defenses 'a lot of trouble'

Odell Beckham Jr. can't wait to get on the field alongside his new running mates.

Encouraged by the way the New York Giants receiving corps has taken shape after a busy offseason, the superstar wideout suggested Saturday that opposing defenses will have some difficulty matching up.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing what teams are going to do this year. I think it's going to be a lot of trouble," Beckham said at his youth football camp, according to James Kratch of NJ.com. "Especially young Shep (Sterling Shepard), I know he's ready. I know the other receivers in that room, TK (Tavarres King), are ready and our defense is going to be very solid as well. So I'm looking forward to this year."

Joining Beckham and second-year receiver Shepard among Eli Manning's passing-game targets are free-agent addition Brandon Marshall and first-round rookie tight end Evan Engram.

Both should have an opportunity to make a significant impact in their first seasons with the Giants. Marshall, a six-time Pro Bowler, provides an intriguing starting option on the outside opposite Beckham, and Engram gives the offense a matchup-type player to move all over the field.

Beyond the on-field production, Beckham appreciates the value of having a veteran presence like Marshall share some wisdom.

"We kind of have a similar struggle, in a sense of how we grew up, and how our mentalities are," he added. "We're really a lot (more) similar than what people may think, and it's just great to have him there. A guy who's been to different teams, knows the ins and outs of how the NFL business works, somebody who can definitely school me to the game. And he's a tremendous talent as well."

The Giants are hoping that receiving upgrades can help the offense bounce back from a 2016 campaign in which it averaged just 330.7 yards per game. That disappointing output ranked 25th league-wide, down from eighth the season prior.
