Johnny Miller lauds Thomas' record-setting round at U.S. Open

Justin Thomas' record-breaking score of 63 on Saturday comes 44 years to the day that Johnny Miller shot his 63 in the 1973 U.S. Open at Oakmont.

Miller has never shied away from talking about how great of a round he played that day en route to the victory, often going into great detail about each shot like it was a spiritual experience.

So, when Thomas holed an eight-foot eagle putt on 18 to post a 9-under-par 63, many were wondering how Miller would react to his record being broken Saturday at Erin Hills Golf Club.

"Nine-under is incredible with U.S. Open pressure," Miller told Ryan Lavner of Golf Channel. "But it isn't a U.S. Open course that I'm familiar with the way it was set up."

The 24-year-old, who fired a 59 in Hawaii earlier in the year, said he didn't know 9-under was the best round in Open history, but wishes the NBC analyst was in the booth for it.

"I don't know, but I'll be happy," Thomas told Jason Sobel of ESPN. "I wish he was calling it, to hear what he would've said."
