Former UFC heavyweight Tim Hague is in a coma after sustaining a brain injury during a boxing match in Edmonton, Alberta on Friday night, his friend and fellow fighter Cody Krahn revealed on social media Saturday.

Hague was knocked out by Adam Braidwood and later brought to hospital, where he underwent surgery to relieve pressure caused by bleeding in the brain, according to Krahn.

In addition to the back-to-back knockouts he's suffered in the ring, the 33-year-old Hague has taken quite a bit of punishment in the cage, with eight of 13 career MMA losses coming by stoppage.

The Alberta native compiled a UFC record of 1-4 from 2009-11.
